Microsoft acknowledged an error that allowed Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat to access and summarise some users' confidential emails by mistake. The issue caused Copilot Chat to surface content from messages stored in Draft and Sent Items in Outlook desktop, including messages labelled confidential. A configuration update was deployed worldwide for enterprise customers to prevent Copilot from processing protected content. Microsoft said access controls and data protection policies remained intact and that no one was given access to information they were not authorised to see.
