Skana Robotics helps fleets of underwater robots communicate with each other | TechCrunch
"Communication between vessels is one of the main challenges during the deployment of multi-domain, multi-vessel operations,"
"The problem that we tackle is how you can deploy hundreds of unmanned vessels in an operation, share data, communicate on the surface level and under the water."
Skana Robotics developed SeaSphere capability to enable long-distance underwater communication among groups of autonomous vessels using AI. The system allows vessels to share data and react to acoustic inputs from other robots, enabling individual units to autonomously adapt course and tasking while maintaining overall mission objectives. The software targets coordination of hundreds of unmanned vessels and can be applied to secure underwater infrastructure and supply chains. Research prioritized older, mathematically driven AI algorithms for greater predictability rather than newer, less predictable models. The approach reduces the exposure risk posed when submersibles must surface to transmit.
