United Airlines has introduced Starlink Wi-Fi on its inaugural passenger flight to Detroit, providing high-speed internet access throughout the journey. The service is powered by SpaceX's extensive network of low Earth orbit satellites, ensuring reliable connectivity even in remote areas. In an announcement on X, United highlighted that MileagePlus members can access this complimentary service, which significantly improves streaming, browsing, and gaming for passengers. Following this launch, the airline plans to expand Starlink Wi-Fi service to its entire fleet by the end of the year, marking a significant enhancement in in-flight services.
That lightning-fast Wi-Fi we told you about? It's here. Our first customers just found out what it's like to break the Wi-Fi barrier and stream, scroll, shop, and game just like at home with Starlink.
I ran a speed test, and it clocked the Wi-Fi at 217 Mbps of download speed, and 26.8 Mbps of upload speed, noting its suitability for long flights.
