Humane's AI Pin, launched in April 2024, was initially hyped as a revolutionary alternative to smartphones by its former Apple co-founders. However, it faced an immediate backlash with poor reviews, high pricing, and disappointing sales figures. The company attempted to pivot through potential acquisition offers, but ultimately struggled to deliver a product that met user expectations. Major flaws like slow performance, battery issues, and an ineffective interface underscored the gap between its vision and reality, leading to an eventual decline.
It didn't take long for things to spiral out of control. The AI Pin was released in April of 2024 to some of the worst reviews I've ever seen for a consumer tech product.
The challenges the AI Pin had answering questions or executing commands made it a non-starter. Even when it did what was asked, it did it in some strange ways.
Waving your hands and shouting about the promise of AI doesn't make it any easier to build compelling hardware - we slammed its high price, terrible battery life, slow performance, and hard-to-use projected display.
Using the AI Pin made our reviewer Cherlynn Low want to 'rip it off her head.' This was a clear reflection of the disconnect between marketing and actual user experience.
