A Waymo autonomous taxi froze while attempting to cross a narrow Venice Beach canal bridge during the annual canals holiday boat parade. Local resident Ryan Light shared Instagram footage showing the vehicle cautiously waiting as a single line of cars piled up on the one-way street behind it. Pedestrian activity near the bridge caused the vehicle to shut down despite people not being directly in its path. The car reportedly blocked traffic for 45 minutes while a police officer walked alongside as it slowly inched forward. Repeated clearings of the bridge quickly refilled with pedestrians, effectively creating a temporary car-free footbridge.
