Magnum Gallery Honors the Life and Legacy of Photographer Martin Parr
"His humor, his clarity, and his vision shaped many discussions across the agency and within the wider photographic world. This exhibition pays homage to the unique vision of Martin Parr, whose sharp eye for contemporary society and prominent role within Magnum Photos have left an enduring mark on photography."
"In his early career, Parr worked in black and white-then considered the medium of serious photographers versus the colorful work of commercial photography-capturing everyday life and people in rural English farming communities that were then fast disappearing. By the early 1980s, he made the transition permanently to color photography, but the empathy and sensitivity toward his subjects that he developed in his early work carried through."
Martin Parr, an English photographer and photojournalist who passed away in 2025, was a 30-year member of Magnum Photos and served as its president from 2013 to 2017. Recognized for capturing everyday life's nuances with humor and clarity, Parr shaped discussions within photography. Magnum Gallery Paris will present "Martin Parr: In Plain View" from March 28 to June 6, 2026, featuring images from his tenure at the agency. The exhibition includes texts, archival materials, and correspondences offering insight into his practice. Early in his career, Parr photographed rural English farming communities in black and white before transitioning to color photography in the early 1980s, maintaining empathy toward his subjects throughout his work.
