For its 19th edition, the Sony World Photography Awards welcomed over 430,000 submissions for its Open competition from photographers in more than 200 countries and territories around the globe. Ten categories, ranging from portraiture to landscapes to travel, encompass the staggering breadth and beauty of nature and society captured throughout 2025. The contest has announced the category winners, including Robby Ogilvie 's vibrant composition of a vintage car in front of colorful buildings in the Bo-Kaap neighborhood in Cape Town, South Africa.

He is the founder of Offspring Photo Meet and the Sicily Photo Masterclass, and the author of Terra Nostra, East London Up Close, and his latest book, Moon City. In Moon City (co-published with Dewi Lewis Publishing), Mollica spent more than five years photographing the lunar surface and the city's glass and steel towers, overlaying images of people walking the streets, captured through telescope and mobile phone.

In January the island's beaches were inundated with waves of plastic pollution, a phenomenon that has been getting worse by the year. Photographer and film-maker Sean Gallagher travelled to Bali to document the increasing tide of rubbish washing up on beaches and riverbanks, and the people facing the monumental challenge of cleaning up. Funnily enough, before they were tapped for this project, Ryan says Inez & Vinoodh used to muse about how using a phone would be so much smoother than their traditional setup with heavy gear, lighting, and assistants. "You can just move more quickly and act on ideas as they're evolving," Ryan says. "The phone allows you to be a little bit reckless and take chances. You can shoot thousands of pictures and try things you might not have tried before."
