Miami Beach's Bass Museum picks architect for new pavilion
""We are thrilled to reimagine the southwest corner of Collins Park for The Bass," Mark Lee, the firm's founding partner, said in a statement."
""Through careful analysis of light and shadow, space and volume, and the surrounding park and urban context, we are planning a transformative project that will increase public access to the museum's programs and artworks," said Sharon Johnston, a founding partner at the firm."
"The project will include three main elements: an elevated gallery to display the museum's expanding permanent collection while meeting resiliency guidelines in flood-, heat wave- and hurricane-prone South Florida."
Johnston Marklee has been selected to lead the expansion of the Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach. The project will transform a 22,000 sq. ft parking area into a new pavilion. The firm has experience in museum projects, including the Whitney Museum and the Menil Drawing Institute. The expansion will build on Arata Isozaki's 1995 campus concept and aims to enhance public access to the museum's programs. Key features include an elevated gallery, an outdoor patio, and a stage for events.
