Assemblymember San Francisco Matt Haney supports maintaining this fund to provide direct employment benefits to artists, highlighting their importance to society. Governor Newsom's recommended budget follows significant federal cuts to arts funding, raising concerns among advocates like Julie Baker, who warns that eliminating the state fund could harm small nonprofit organizations without resolving California's larger budget issues.
