The University of Kentucky has received a $150 million gift -the largest in the institution's history-to create a new home for the arts on the Lexington campus. The donation comes from the Bill Gatton Foundation, established by the late Carol Martin "Bill" Gatton, a 1954 alumnus who bought a chain of car dealerships and then invested his earnings in banking and real estate.
One day after it was allegedly stolen, a moving truck storing "irreplaceable" sets and backdrops for an Ontario-wide tour of The Nutcracker has been recovered, according to the head of the ballet company. Someone stole Christmas, and now it's back on, Bengt Jorgen, artistic director and CEO for Jorgen Dance, told CBC Radio's Metro Morning Tuesday.
The "Nutcracker" productions include: "Nutcracker Sweets," an abridged 60-minute version of the classic ballet for children ages 3-9 and families featuring dancers from Peninsula Ballet Theatre and students from the Peninsula School of the Arts; "Hip-Hop Nutcracker," a full-length production by Peninsula Hip-Hop Productions Artistic Director Stuck Sanders with additional choreography by Alée Martinez. This two-act dance scenario overlays Tchaikovsky's score with DJ industrial beats and remixes; A full-length professional production of "The Nutcracker" by Peninsula Ballet Theatre's Artistic Director Gregory Amato.

A new coalition of arts groups that includes Berkeley Repertory Theater, Berkeley Symphony Orchestra and the Freight & Salvage announced last week that it will start collecting signatures for a parcel tax of 7 cents per square foot.

Located on St. Louis' Grand Boulevard, the project expands and reimagines the 1925-built theater building while preserving its architectural character and acoustic qualites. The global architecture firm worked alongside Christner Architects, Schuler Shook, BSI Constructors, and Kirkegaard to create a 64,000-square-foot addition in time to celebrate the hall's centennial in 2025. The expansion improves accessibility and introduces new public spaces, educational spaces, and backstage areas to support the full scope of the Symphony's programs and community events.
