After battling through personal struggles, Cabrera expressed emotional relief, highlighting how challenging the journey back to the sport has been. His coach, Charlie Epps, noted that Cabrera has found strength through his experience in prison, showcasing a positive change as he returns to compete at prestigious events like The Masters.
Cabrera said, per Sports Illustrated. "So being here to have these chances again and win again for me is very emotional. And obviously it was a hard battle out there."
His golf coach Charlie Epps said, "He has said prison was good for him. It helped him in many different ways."
Epps added, "He is full of joy, he is so mentally strong. That's one reason why he won, you know, and his record there is pretty darn good."
