Jack Bauer, a standout left-handed high school pitcher from Lincoln-Way East in Illinois, has garnered attention for his exceptional pitching talent, notably reaching 102 mph on his fastball during a game against Coffee High School in Georgia. Committed to the University of Virginia, Bauer displayed a sharp slider and effective changeup alongside his powerful fastball. Despite a loss in the game, where he struck out five batters, his significant improvement in velocity from the previous year positions him as a potential early round draft pick in the upcoming MLB draft.
He said he's now working on the control of his off-speed stuff as he feels more confident with his heater. Bauer wants to have a hard slider "tunnel" off his fastball instead of the more in-vogue sweeper.
Yeah I threw two innings, I didn't give up a baserunner, six straight K's. I go back to the bullpen... and they're like, 'Scouts back there had you at 100.'
According to Douglas Now, Bauer, a University of Virginia commit, held Coffee to one hit - a double - over 2 1/3 innings during the interstate matchup.
Baseball America reported Tuesday that Bauer was sitting in the mid-90s with some iffy control last year, but saw a huge jump in velocity this year.
