Hotel Saint Augustine Is a New Sanctuary in the Heart of Houston
Briefly

Hotel Saint Augustine, a new project by Austin-based Bunkhouse Hotels in Houston, draws inspiration from the fourth-century theologian Saint Augustine and his association with printing. Situated near the Menil Drawing Institute, the hotel's design by Lake Flato consists of five two-story structures that evoke a sanctuary-like atmosphere with cloistral courtyards and lush gardens. The interiors, crafted by Post Company and Bunkhouse's in-house team, combine modern and traditional aesthetic elements with curated furnishings and artworks. This project not only enhances the area's architectural dialogue but integrates beautifully with its historical and ecological context.
Hotel Saint Augustine reflects an inward-facing urban retreat with monastery-like qualities and contemporary design touches, creating a unique hospitality experience in Houston.
The architecture by Lake Flato features clusters of two-story structures connected by open-air porches and cloistral courtyards, creating a residential feel.
The interior design, in collaboration with Post Company, intermixes old and new elements while showcasing a selection of distinctive furnishings and minimalist artworks.
Surrounding gardens with curated plant species enhance the hotel's ecological connection to its geographical context, deepening its relationship with the local environment.
