Planning Commission hears complaints, offers amendments on new STR ordinance in marathon hearing - Austin Monitor
Briefly

The Planning Commission discussed a new ordinance to regulate short-term rentals (STRs) in a meeting that elicited strong public reactions. Residents voiced concerns about the impact of STRs on their neighborhoods, citing a prevalence of crime and noise associated with these rentals. The ordinance seeks to streamline the licensing process for responsible property owners while increasing enforcement against illegal operations. Some STR owners expressed support for more regulation but worry about potential favoritism in the enforcement process, highlighting the complexity of balancing community needs with property owner rights.
There are around 300 homes in our neighborhood and by rough estimates, about 100 of them operate as STRs today. These properties have been the site of shootings, sex trafficking and other crimes.
While I support greater regulation, I have doubts about the details and feel like STRs are being singled out for criticism.
