Kane’s goal tied Robert Lewandowski for the most goals in a single season across all competitions since the turn of the millennium. Kane reached the tally one game slower than Lewandowski, at 48 matches versus 47. Kane still has two Bundesliga matches and a DFB-Pokal final remaining, leaving a chance to surpass Gerd Müller’s 66-goal record from 1972/73. Kane also aims to beat Lewandowski’s 41 goals from 2020/21, needing nine goals in two games to do so.
