As a Linux power user, this is the distro with the most refreshing take on OS design
Briefly

NixOS is a Linux distribution that appeals to users seeking a challenge beyond mainstream options like Ubuntu and Linux Mint. While it requires familiarity with the command line, it is less complex than Gentoo, positioning it somewhere between Ubuntu and Arch Linux. Its lack of a GUI app store can be daunting for new users, as package installations are done via the command line. NixOS provides two official desktop environments, GNOME and Plasma Desktop, but other layouts, like Deepin, are also available, allowing users some customization during installation.
Before we get into this review, I want to offer some information for new Linux users. If you're uncomfortable using the command line, then NixOS is probably not for you.
Not everyone wants an Ubuntu or Linux Mint distribution. I've tried nearly every Linux OS I've come across, from the ridiculously simple to the astoundingly complex.
NixOS isn't nearly as difficult as Gentoo, but it's not quite as user-friendly as Ubuntu. It leaves itself somewhere between Ubuntu and Arch Linux.
There's no GUI app store. With NixOS, you install packages via the command line, which can be challenging for users with minimal CLI experience.
