Berlin's beloved street food is settling down in the East Bay
Briefly

Although foods like pretzels and bratwurst are widely associated with Germany in the U.S., döner kebabs are less known despite their popularity in Germany. Pierre Slack, owner of Oakland's Black Forest Kitchen, aims to introduce this iconic Berlin street food to American diners. Having grown up in Frankfurt where döner shops were prevalent, Slack was surprised by the lack of such offerings in Oakland, prompting him to open a kebab shop after training in Germany. His venture reflects the cultural connections and culinary diversity he hopes to share.
So it surprised him when he was told there wasn't a dönerscene in the East Bay.
Slack returned to the Frankfurt metropolitan area to learn the trade at local kebab shop CaLe.
