Center for Historical Keyboards boosted by $5 million gift | Cornell Chronicle
Briefly

The Abraham J. & Phyllis Katz Foundation has donated $5 million to the Cornell Center for Historical Keyboards to ensure the preservation and expansion of its impressive collection of historical keyboard instruments. This funding will also support concerts, festivals, and educational programs, fostering a deeper connection between music, technology, art, and history. Founding director Annette Richards emphasizes the importance of these instruments in delivering a rich educational experience. The donation aims to create a sustainable environment for future generations of musicians.
These instruments require a controlled environment and constant maintenance, so that future generations of pianists will have the opportunity to experience what Mozart heard and responded to in the creative process at the keyboard.
But we are also committed to bringing performance and scholarship together and creating opportunities for students to learn about the connections between music, technology, art and history.
