8 off-the-bike things professional cyclists do to ride faster - and you can do too
Briefly

Pro cyclists focus not only on riding but also on strength training, nutrition, mental strategies, and recovery to enhance performance. Coaches emphasize the importance of strength and conditioning, noting its increased importance over the last decade. Successful cyclists, such as Tadej Pogačar, have integrated gym routines as vital components of their training. To maximize benefits, they advise a dedicated and continuous approach, particularly emphasizing off-season training followed by maintenance throughout the riding season. Stretching is also highlighted as a critical practice for performance improvement and injury prevention.
"This has increased in prominence in the last decade and now you find most cyclists are doing some form of strength and conditioning work," Dani Rowe, coach at Rowe and King, emphasized.
"The only caveat is you [need to] really define and invest fully. Dipping in and out of strength and conditioning in the gym doesn't really work, you need to buy into it," Rowe noted.
"Overload in the off-season and then maintain through the season. It's not something you can do for a couple of months in the winter and then neglect through the season," Rowe advised.
