A bet for a tattoo and a 'joke' attack - Why Tadej Pogacar spent 110km in the UAE Tour breakaway
Briefly

Tadej Pogačar displayed his unpredictable cycling strategy at the UAE Tour in 2025, moving ahead of the peloton with Domen Novak. Their well-timed attack, reminiscent of a previous playful maneuver at the Volta a Catalunya, resulted in a successful 11-man breakaway that lasted significantly into the race. Pogačar expressed a sense of enjoyment in this initiative, emphasizing the camaraderie within the group while making sure to conserve energy for the final stages. Their humorous nature break added a lighthearted touch to an otherwise competitive race atmosphere.
It was just a funny moment like it was last year in Volta a Catalunya, me and Domen [Novak] alone in the front with one minute and a half gap in the bunch.
Then we just sort of committed and tried not to spend too much, just rotate with the guys and follow their pace.
I don’t know how me and Tadej were in the break but we stopped for a pee then we came back with some speed.
Today’s move was more of a calculated risk, unlike last year where we ended up hiding in bushes.
