Beyond the Bike: Testing the Best of the Worst "Tacos" - Burger King vs. Jack in the Box
"This is a silly thing to write about. Really, it's mostly for entertainment, but cyclists need to eat. And when you're on the road, or coming back from the trailhead post-bonk, you can get a little desperate... I'm usually shocked when the Jack-in-the-Box "taco" gets brought up in conversation. The conversation usually involves people asking the same two questions: "Is that meat?" And, "what's with the American cheese?" Regardless of the answers for those two questions, it always resolves with everyone agreeing that those "tacos""
"Both are legitimate questions, and I don't have an answer for either. I still eat them. I mean, I do, albeit occasionally, a few times a year. And, to quantify "a few times a year," I would say more than 5 but less than 10. What can I say, sometimes those lil gut bombs hit the spot. Late-night fast-food tacos provide a guilty-pleasure option for hungry cyclists and bar-goers returning from trails or nights out. The Jack-in-the-Box taco provokes recurring questions about the meat and the use of American cheese, yet remains widely considered delicious. Consumption is occasional—more than five but fewer than ten times per year for one eater—often after midnight when cravings strike. Observing similar tacos at Burger King prompted a side-by-side tasting. The Burger King tacos appeared eerily similar, but proved both different and unsurprisingly similar. The tasting occurred during a drive-through stop while purchasing a Whopper Jr., leading to an informal review.
