Cold Versus Cool Motorcycle Rides - Scooter in the Sticks
Briefly

On a cold morning, the author joined a friend, Dave, for a 39-mile motorcycle ride to McVeytown, Pennsylvania. Despite the mid-30s temperatures, they braved the ride for the sake of friendship and breakfast. Along the way, they stopped to warm up at a church parking lot, where the author attempted to warm his cold gloves on the motorcycle’s muffler. Unfortunately, this led to the immediate melting of his glove on a hot header pipe, serving as a humorous yet cautionary tale about the risks of inadequate winter gear and the importance of upgrading old equipment.
I looked at the exposed header pipe and said to myself if the muffler felt warm the header pipe would feel even warmer. Well, that's sort of true.
It startled me how fast the glove melted. As I reached for the pipe I envisioned a nice warming grip. Instead it sounded like laying a steak on a hot grill.
I placed both my gloved hands on the muffler and could feel a little heat. I have warmed my cold gloves and hands on the scooter muffler or headlight.
But when friends and breakfast are dangled before you, logic and good sense take a back seat.
