Double Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard criticized race organizers following the chaotic end to the first stage of the Volta ao Algarve where cyclists went off course. This mismanagement led to Filippo Ganna's initial incorrect solo stage win, which was later invalidated. At the stage 2 start, Vingegaard stressed the necessity for clear directions during races to avoid such incidents, echoing concerns about safety and proper organization within the sport. Ganna also acknowledged the confusion but was relieved that no injuries occurred among the cyclists.
Something like this shouldn't happen in cycling, I think the organisers should take this seriously and the UCI as well. It wasn't really clear where we had to go.
It's important that in a situation like that, nobody was injured. This is a sport where we need clarity on the course.
