During a vigil organized by Mothers Against Genocide to commemorate Mother's Day and honor children killed in Gaza, 11 individuals were arrested. The vigil participants were advocating for more action from the Irish government regarding the conflict. As part of their protest, they placed photographs of Palestinian children who lost their lives due to the violence. The Gardaí intervened as protesters formed a sitdown protest, leading to arrests. One member emphasized their commitment to humanizing the victims and their shared responsibilities as mothers, which added a poignant personal dimension to the protest.
Eight of us were removed and arrested by gardaí. Eight mothers who had obligations today, school runs that they were going to be collecting their children from.
We had displays of the gorgeous children who we wanted to humanize, that they are not just numbers to become desensitized to.
The aim of those mothers was to prevent the slaughter of innocent children. Last night we came together to honor the 18,000 children who have been brutally murdered.
This protest is about creating awareness of the plight of Palestinian children and calling on the Irish government to take specific actions regarding the conflict in Gaza.
