Hundred rally in downtown Portland to protest Trump's second term
Briefly

After a lull during President Trump's first term, protests in Portland re-emerged during his second term, culminating in a significant demonstration on February 17. The protest started with just a few dozen people but quickly grew to around 500 participants as they congregated outside City Hall and filled nearby public spaces. This resurgence demonstrates the city’s continued commitment to political activism and the vibrant culture of protests that follows significant national political events.
During the first Trump term, anti-administration protests in Portland were as common as artisanal coffees and the drizzles. It took nearly a month into Trump 2.0 for Portlanders to again flock to the streets.
In a matter of about 30 minutes, a protest in front of Portland City Hall on Monday, Feb 17, went from several dozen protests to an estimated 500.
The sidewalk directly in front of City Hall was closed by the city, so protesters quickly filled the federally owned Terry Schrunk Plaza, directly across Southwest Fourth Avenue, and the southwest corner of Chapman Square.
