The Colorado Black Health Resource Directory is a vital resource aimed at Black Coloradans, offering a comprehensive guide of healthcare providers sensitive to their unique cultural concerns. This initiative, led by Dr. Terri Richardson and developed over many years, seeks to bridge the gap in health disparities faced by the Black community in Colorado. Now in its fifth edition, the directory highlights the importance of culturally appropriate care, ensuring that individuals from various backgrounds, including the broader Black diaspora, can access necessary health information effectively.
According to the state of Colorado, in 2023, 4.18% of our population was Black or African American alone. It's a population that needs these resources, Richardson says.
Richardson says the idea first came about in 2010, a response to requests for information from Black Coloradans seeking to connect with medical providers who understand their unique concerns.
