Baldur's Village, a fan expansion for Stardew Valley featuring characters from Baldur's Gate 3, has faced a takedown by Wizards of the Coast due to copyright issues. Despite initial praise from Larian Studios' CEO, the mod was removed from NexusMods following a DMCA notice. It included over 20 characters and new gameplay features, which were well-received by the gaming community. The situation highlights the ongoing tensions between fan creativity and intellectual property rights within the gaming industry.
This mod is under moderation review, reads a disclaimer added to the page on March 29. According to a spokesperson for the mod database, Wizards of the Coast was responsible for sending a DMCA takedown notice against the fan content for infringing on its ownership of Dungeons & Dragons.
This is an incredibly creative cross-over to Stardew Valley that the community loves, adding that the Larian boss' original endorsement was nothing less than we would expect from the Larian CEO, who has been such a refreshing and visionary leader.
