In Elden Ring Nightreign, players discover the rare Cord End, which is cryptically described as allowing entry somewhere. Its true purpose remains unclear until many hours of gameplay later, revealing access to a secret area containing valuable items. The game emphasizes exploration amidst a fast-paced design that often forces players to prioritize efficiency over curiosity. Players are encouraged to investigate the environment, but many may overlook opportunities due to the urgency created by gameplay mechanics, leading to a mix of frustration and intrigue throughout their journey.
The first time I saw the Cord End on the ground in Elden Ring Nightreign, I was vexed. The enigmatic item had a simple description: 'Gain entry somewhere.'
One time, I dove deep into the magma area of the map only to find that the level extended so deeply, I couldn't figure out how to get out before the storm claimed my runes.
Nightreign's design forces players to zip through the map from icon to icon in hopes of building up a character who can withstand a Nightlord.
I figured that the likelihood of ever figuring out what to do with it was small, so I recently allowed myself to look it up.
