As Windows 10 approaches its expiration, reflections turn to its predecessor, Windows 7. Some users, including those in the author's family in Czechia, remain hesitant to upgrade due to hardware compatibility and software requirements. While Windows 7 was officially retired in 2020, there are tips to help maintain its functionality. Key recommendations include cleaning up old installations with tools like Disk Cleanup while avoiding risky registry cleaners. Users are warned that soon, similar challenges will be faced by Windows 10 users as it approaches a decade since its release.
If you're still running such an old version, it's probably an old installation as well. That implies a dangerously high Stob Cruft Index. Dumping the junk is a good plan.
There are valid reasons: hardware that lacks drivers for newer versions, or a need for some software that won't run on later versions. It could simply be penury.
It is still possible to use these classic versions even if you have some concern for self-preservation.
We suspect that pretty soon, this will apply to a lot of people running Windows 10 as well: its release date of July 15, 2015, is very nearly a decade ago.
