Boston to scale back Open Newbury Street events this year, Wu says
A delay in announcing the Open Newbury Street schedule raised questions about whether car-free events would return. The mayor said the events are still planned but will be fewer this year because June and July already include many major events. The city is accounting for the full calendar, including non-city events that require public safety and streets coordination capacity. The city has not released dates for Open Newbury Street, which typically closes Newbury Street on 10 Sundays in summer and one winter Sunday for a holiday stroll. Other Open Streets events are planned in Jamaica Plain, Allston/Brighton, Mattapan, and Roslindale between August and October, totaling one fewer than last year. Regular programming is expected to resume in 2027 after the summer events end.
""We're doing fewer Open Streets events this year because June and July are mega-programmed with lots of events already," Wu wrote."
""Each year we look at the entire calendar, including non-City events that also require public safety and streets coordination capacity," she continued. "We're always trying to do things more efficiently to be able to increase our capacity.""

"Wu said not to worry. After these big summer events are over, the city will return to regular programming in 2027."
