Lina Maria Orovio-Hernandez, a 58-year-old Colombian woman residing in Boston, was arrested and charged for identity theft and stealing more than $250,000 in housing benefits. She allegedly misused someone else's identity to obtain a U.S. passport and a Massachusetts driver's license. Between October 2011 and January 2025, she fraudulently received approximately $259,589 in Section 8 housing benefits. Orovio-Hernandez faced federal charges in court, which included misuse of a Social Security number and theft of government money.
Orovio-Hernandez allegedly used the stolen identity to acquire illegitimate Section 8 housing benefits worth about $259,589 from October 2011 to January 2025.
Officials reported that Orovio-Hernandez applied for a United States passport and a Massachusetts driver's license using the information of another person.
