"I don't think any time teams fail, it's just one person. It's impossible."
"Great memories - the disappointing memory too, of the first-round loss to Florida [in 2023],"
"But for me, it's always about people, the great players, the management that I got the opportunity to work with. Everybody here made me better."
Jim Montgomery compiled a 120-41-23 record as Bruins head coach while experiencing both record-setting highs and disappointing playoff outcomes. In his first year, Boston set NHL records with 65 wins and 135 points but lost to Florida in the first round after surrendering a 3-1 series lead. The team rebounded to 47 wins and a first-round victory over Toronto in 2023-24 following the retirements of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci. A slow start to 2024-25 (8-9-3) led to Montgomery's firing on November 19, 2024. Five days later St. Louis hired Montgomery on a five-year contract after dismissing Drew Bannister. Montgomery returned to TD Garden for the first time since his dismissal.
