I would have loved to continue working with this team and continue to face the challenges that lie ahead. But I accept the decision. I went to Eintracht every day with great passion and joy, and regardless of the current unsatisfactory situation, which undoubtedly exists, I am proud of what we have achieved together over the past two and a half years,
One minute you are riding the perfect wave, the next you're being dumped from a great height and having your world tipped upside down. Which is essentially how Razor will now be feeling after being ousted as All Blacks head coach barely two years into his tenure. On the surface he was everything New Zealand rugby could have wished for. The serial domestic winner who had guided the Crusaders to seven successive Super rugby titles, the empathetic everyman with the break-dancing skills to match.
"This season has been a frustrating one for all of us and the bottom line is we are not performing at a level that meets our expectations," Waddell said. "We all share in that responsibility, me included, and while this was not a decision that was made lightly it is one that needed to be made at this time."
Less than six months ago, coach Kevin Stefanski had a strong show of support from Cleveland Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam despite the organization attempting to rebound from a 3-14 campaign during the 2024 season. But Jimmy Haslam, though, said another three-win season finish wouldn't cut it. "We've got to do better. I think we'll know what better looks like," Jimmy Haslam said.
The 2004 champions were playing against 10 men for more than 90 minutes of a match that went to extra time in Casablanca, after Mali's Woyo Coulibaly was sent off early on. Tunisia, who have qualified for the 2026 World Cup, went ahead in the 88th minute, only to concede a penalty in the sixth minute of added time and spurn a lead in the shootout that followed.
Liverpool have parted company with their first-team set-piece coach, Aaron Briggs, in response to the issues that have blighted Arne Slot's side this season. Slot has made no secret of his dismay with Liverpool's set-piece failings, at both ends of the pitch, and admitted they were holding back the Premier League champions before Saturday's 2-1 win over Wolves. Wolves' consolation was the 12th goal that Liverpool have conceded from a set-piece in the Premier League this season
Leading 21-0 midway through the second quarter at the Hawaii Bowl, Cal was positioned to generate valuable momentum heading into the start of the Tosh Lupoi coaching era. Instead, the Bears' 35-31 loss to Hawaii on Wednesday night was more evidence that the program needs a leadership change that can toss aside a tired and familiar narrative. The Bears teased their fans with a dynamite dash out of the starting blocks in front of a capacity crowd of 15,194 at cozy Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.
"Gary joined during a challenging period and deserves immense credit for the hard work and leadership that saw us retain our Championship status last season. However, following a disappointing run of results, we have had to take this difficult decision in the best interests of the club. On behalf of the board, I would like to place on record our thanks to Gary and Mark for their contribution to the club and to wish them all the best for the future."
London City Lionesses are set to appoint Spanish coach Eder Maestre as manager following the sacking of Jocelyn Precheur. Maestre was recently managing CD Tenerife Femenino in Spain's top-tier but left the club in December. London City, who were promoted to the Women's Super League for the first time this season, sacked Frenchman Precheur on Sunday. Precheur, 43, joined London City in 2024 from Paris St-Germain during a period of major investment by ambitious multi-club owner Michele Kang.
OXFORD, Miss. -- Trinidad Chambliss ran for two touchdowns and passed for another, and No. 6 Ole Miss looked unfazed by the defection of coach Lane Kiffin, beating No. 17 Tulane 41-10 on Saturday in the first round of the College Football Playoff. Scoring runs of 20 yards by Kewan Lacy and 4 yards by Chambliss gave Ole Miss (12-1) a 14-0 lead before eight minutes had elapsed in the coaching debut of Pete Golding, who was promoted from defensive coordinator after Kiffin left for LSU on Nov. 30.
At least the 41-year-old former defensive coordinator is predictable. That wasn't always the case with Lane Kiffin, the former Ole Miss coach who abruptly left the Rebels at the end of the regular season to take over SEC rival LSU. Kiffin seems to spend as much time on social media as he does residing in opposing defensive coordinators' heads because of his unpredictable playcalling.
Michigan has fired head football coach Sherrone Moore with cause after a university investigation found "credible evidence" he had "engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member," the school announced Wednesday. "This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy," athletic director Warde Manuel said in a statement, "and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior." Moore started at Michigan in 2018 as tight ends coach and worked his way up to offensive coordinator.
CFP qualifier Tulane is expected to promote veteran assistant Will Hall to head coach, sources tell ESPN. He replaces Jon Sumrall who, last week, accepted the job to coach at Florida. Hall, 45, was the Green Wave's offensive coordinator in 2019-20 before he left to become head coach at Southern Miss from 2021-24. The Golden Eagles went 14-30 over the four seasons with Hall at the helm.
The Michigan State Spartans formally introduced Pat Fitzgerald as their new head coach this week, which came after the team dismissed Jonathan Smith. He led the team to a 9-15 record in his two seasons as head coach, including a 4-8 mark this year. For Fitzgerald, it's his first head coaching job since being fired by Northwestern in 2023 because of a hazing scandal. Fitzgerald was later vindicated after the school admitted he had no knowledge of the alleged misconduct. Fitzgerald will now look to usher in a new era of winning football for the Spartans, who last finished above .500 during the 2021 season.
Despite a contract that ran through the 2030 season, and with a $9 million payday in 2024, the university made the decision to move on from a coach who authored an impressive era in Lexington. Stoops would be owed 75% of his remaining salary, which equates to approximately $37.7 million. After a season that ended Saturday with a 41-0 loss to in-state rival Louisville, Stoops said he wasn't going anywhere.
