The Cardinals are set to call up infield prospect Thomas Saggese for his major league debut, as announced by Robert Murray of FanSided. Saggese, who is not currently on the 40-man roster, will have to have his contract formally selected from Triple-A Memphis before making the leap to the majors. Fortunately for St. Louis, they already have two open spots on the 40-man roster, so only a move on the active 28-man roster is necessary.
At just 22 years old, Saggese, who was acquired from the Rangers during the 2023 trade deadline that sent pitchers Jordan Montgomery and Chris Stratton to Texas, is making an impressive mark. According to Baseball America, he ranks as the fifth-best prospect in the Cardinals' system. His performance this season, hitting .253 with 20 home runs and nine stolen bases across 528 plate appearances, showcases his potential as he steps into the major leagues.
