Luetge opted out of his Red Sox contract on Aug. 3 and announced joining the Cubs organization via Instagram with a minor-league deal reported by Chris Cotillo. He seeks to move up to the big leagues after excelling in Triple-A with the Red Sox.
Chicago also acquired Trey Wingenter from Boston in August. Despite having a strong team ERA, the Cubs are currently out of the playoff race in the NL.
