Red Sox reportedly agree to five-year deal with starting pitcher Ranger Suarez worth $130 million
"According to multiple reports (initially via MLB Network's Jon Heyman and USA Today's Bob Nightengale), the Red Sox are signing left-handed starting pitcher Ranger Suarez to a five-year contract worth $130 million."
"With Garrett Crochet, Brayan Bello, and Sonny Gray (added in an earlier offseason trade) already locked in for the team's 2026 rotation, the addition of Suarez will make it an even greater position of strength."
""Boston now will turn to adding another bat to its lineup," noted ESPN baseball insider Jeff Passan, "but that rotation is excellent.""
Boston signed Ranger Suarez to a five-year, $130 million contract. Suarez, 30, went 12-8 with a 3.20 ERA for the Phillies in 2025 and posted nearly identical stats in 2024, when he made his first MLB All-Star team. Boston lost out on re-signing infielder Alex Bregman, who signed a five-year, $175 million deal with the Cubs. Rather than immediately replacing Bregman, Boston prioritized bolstering its starting rotation. With Garrett Crochet, Brayan Bello, and Sonny Gray already slated for 2026, adding Suarez further solidifies the staff. Boston is expected to pursue another bat to offset Bregman's departure.
