In a memorable game at Globe Life Field, Wilyer Abreu of the Boston Red Sox honored both his late grandmother and the recent birth of his twin sons by hitting two home runs in a single game. After a remarkable performance, which included going 3-for-3 with four RBIs, Abreu mentioned the significance of his second home run being 'one for each' son. Red Sox manager Alex Cora praised him for his dynamic play and noted the historical achievement of reaching multiple milestones in one game.
"I was playing for her," Abreu said after that game.
"To be honest, I didn't expect that, but when I hit the second one, I figured it was one for each."
"He's such a good player," Red Sox manager Alex Cora said of Abreu on NESN's postgame coverage. "Dynamic. He had a big one here last year."
No other MLB player has accomplished those five feats in any single game since the RBI became an official stat in 1920.
