Blue Bottle Coffee union workers walk out over bargaining dispute
Briefly

Blue Bottle Coffee has faced significant unrest among its employees after claiming the company stalled contract negotiations by seeking to install security cameras in unionized locations. The Blue Bottle Independent Union staged a walkout, leaving five out of six cafes in Massachusetts without baristas. Employees claim the company declared an impasse in negotiations, which included demands for living wages and protections against harassment. Union vice president Alex Pyne emphasized that the surveillance initiative appears intended to undermine their union efforts rather than improve security. Workers demand a recommitment to bargaining processes less than 24 hours before taking action.
Installing security cameras had been part of the contract, as was paying baristas a living wage and providing protections against customer harassment, and agreeing to just cause protections for discipline.
Let us be clear: Blue Bottle is not attempting to install surveillance cameras to improve café security, they are doing so to bust our union.
