Here are the Mass. beaches closed Wednesday as temps hit the high 80s
Seven beaches in four Massachusetts towns were closed Wednesday as afternoon temperatures rose into the high 80s. Four Quincy beaches were closed because of unhealthy and excessive bacteria levels based on the Massachusetts Department of Public Health beach water quality dashboard. No specific closure reasons were provided for Ashby, Plymouth, and Shutesbury. Beaches may also be closed for hazards such as cyanobacteria, harmful algae blooms, heavy rain, riptides, or combined sewer overflows. Swimming in water with excessive bacteria can cause eye and ear irritation, skin rashes, and respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms including vomiting and nausea. Reopening dates were not provided, and closures typically last one to two days for lab testing and for bacteria levels to return to safe ranges.
"While no specific reopening dates were given, DPH has noted that closures typically last one to two days to allow for laboratory testing and for bacteria to return to safe levels."
