Luxor Cafe, a family-owned Egyptian deli and coffee shop in Harvard Square, is extending its operating hours during Ramadan to cater to the needs of the local Muslim community. According to owner Abdelrahman Hassan, the cafe aims to provide a space for Muslims to gather after evening prayers at local mosques. In addition to extended hours, the cafe offers special Ramadan menu items, reflecting a broader trend among restaurants in areas with significant Muslim populations. Other local eateries also provide Ramadan specials and catering options to celebrate the holy month.
Owner Abdelrahman Hassan expressed his desire for Luxor Cafe to be a gathering space for Muslims seeking familiarity during Ramadan, saying, "A lot of people living here, they kind of long for that thing they miss at home. We're just trying to be that space for them."
During Ramadan, Luxor Cafe extends its hours to accommodate community needs, open until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays for evening gatherings after prayer.
