The Chili Cookoff at Lock Yard, held on February 9, is an annual event celebrating Super Bowl Sunday with more than a dozen competitors showcasing unique chili recipes. A panel, including chefs and food enthusiasts, judges the entries based on criteria such as aroma and taste. Lock Yard's chef highlighted the event's role in bringing people together, while the bar owner noted its evolution from humble origins. Participants and judges enjoy the competition's serious yet fun atmosphere, emphasizing its growth over eight years since its inception.
"This is the eighth one we've done, and it just keeps getting better and better every year," Tilelli told Brooklyn Paper.
"I think it's great, it gets people outdoors; I think it's a great way to start a community in the area," said McGoey.
"This thing exists because John Voss brought this idea from Pennsylvania to Brooklyn eight years ago - very humble beginnings," said Ghiorzi.
"But it's a lot of fun at the same time," McGoey said about the annual chili cookoff.
