Brooklyn Org Spark Prize Winner: Brownsville Community Culinary Center
Briefly

The Brownsville Community Culinary Center, a nonprofit focusing on free culinary training and nutrition, has been awarded the 2025 Spark Prize by Brooklyn Org. This prize, which includes $100,000 in unrestricted funding, will help the center expand its training and workforce development initiatives aimed at promoting racial and social justice. Executive Director Alexis Aquino highlighted the need for such programs in Brownsville, given high rates of preventable illnesses, stating the importance of providing access to healthy food and empowering residents to make better dietary choices.
It was important to us to provide a hub where we can provide access to healthy food, but also allow folks to be empowered through their diets, to make better choices and to create longevity in their own lives.
We're creating community as folks are able to sit down at the table and have a good, quality meal. That is the beginning of them having a household that is growing healthy together.
