Cardiff Giant, a Brooklyn bar dedicated to New York state drinks, is closing permanently on March 1 after 9 years. Opened in 2016, it was founded by Steven Baird and the Wiley brothers, who also owned other local bars. Known for its exclusive menu of New York-produced wines, beers, ciders, and spirits, the bar thrived alongside the craft beverage movement. Despite its closure, the demand for artisanal products from Upstate New York remains robust, as noted by local distillers reflecting on the bar's impact.
"For a bar that only serves wine, beer, cider, and spirits made in New York State, Cardiff Giant sure doesn't feel pretentious."
"It stinks, but the good news we still have outlets in the city and I even have a sales trip coming up," said Brian McKenzie.
