Cops baffled after seven people filmed emerging from Brooklyn manhole, changing clothes and disappearing - AOL
Surveillance footage shows seven people removing a manhole cover and climbing out around 2 a.m. on McDonald Avenue in Gravesend, with some wearing waders, gloves, heavy-duty boots, and carrying flashlights. After emerging, the group gathered near two parked cars, removed dirty gear, loaded equipment, and drove away. About an hour earlier, eight people entered a sewer manhole near Heyward Street and Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg and later left in a waiting vehicle. Investigators are determining whether the two incidents are connected. Police later said the Gravesend area was safe and DEP found no sewer damage. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
"Entering the sewer system is both illegal and extremely dangerous. Sewers can contain numerous hazards, including noxious and potentially deadly gases, unstable surfaces, flooding risks and confined spaces. For these reasons, members of the public should never enter a pipe, drain, catch basin, manhole or outfall,"
