""Anyone who's tried to cross here knows how dangerous and chaotic the streets can be. This redesign is long overdue and will provide a sense of ease and enjoyment to one of Brooklyn's most important public spaces.""
"Morgan Monaco, president of the nonprofit Prospect Park Alliance, said she's looking forward to the expansion of the park's footprint."
The city transportation department plans to ban cars from the southern edge of Grand Army Plaza, connecting the Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial Arch to Prospect Park. This change will not eliminate all traffic but will reroute it around the northern side of the circle. The plan includes converting one-way streets to two-way. There is no budget or timeline set for construction. The redesign aims to improve pedestrian safety and reduce interaction points between pedestrians and motorists.
