The NYC Department of Transportation is addressing double parking and congestion by creating 500 new loading zones, allowing for convenient parking to reduce illegal double parking.
Since December 2021, around 3,000 loading zones have been created, with the latest 500 directly responding to public input through an online portal for problem areas.
DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez emphasized the importance of quick action in response to community feedback, noting that blocked bus and bike lanes are unacceptable.
The surge in delivery vehicles linked to e-commerce growth has exacerbated issues with double parking, prompting the city to prioritize solutions for freight management.
