Seddio's nomination has sparked mixed reactions. Reform-minded members expressed concerns about the continued influence of party leadership at the Board of Elections, which has faced scrutiny for managing NYC elections historically.
Caitlin Kawaguchi, president of the New Kings Democrats, described Seddio's appointment as "more of the same," arguing it reflects the party's ongoing efforts to maintain power through control of key positions.
Seddio defended his nomination, stating, "There's nobody in at least Brooklyn and maybe even the city ... that knows as much as I do about the Board of Elections." He is expected to push for higher poll worker salaries.
Pepe-Souvenir, the current board president, is not seeking another term and reportedly pursuing the role of general counsel at the Board of Elections, a position traditionally appointed by the party chair.
