'Violent Murder' Gets Brooklyn Man 40 Years To Life In Prison: DA
Briefly

Basheer Vinson, a 30-year-old from Brooklyn, received a 40-year to life sentence for fatally shooting Mark Birthwright during a robbery attempt in 2020. The jury found him guilty of second-degree murder and related charges. The incident took place at a house party in Wyandanch, where Vinson, after an altercation, shot 26-year-old Birthwright and injured another man. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney expressed hope that the maximum sentence might provide some solace to the victim's loved ones. DNA evidence linked Vinson directly to the crime.
Unfortunately, this sentence cannot change history and the fact that the loss of the victim's life was sudden, brutal and senseless.
This was a violent and premeditated murder and robbery. We are gratified that the judge imposed the requested maximum sentence.
Vinson attended a house party on Patton Avenue in Wyandanch... outside, Vinson and another unknown person held Birthwright at gunpoint and demanded the money.
Vinson's DNA was recovered from the purple baseball cap left at the scene and a partial DNA profile was recovered from one of the spent 9mm cartridge casings.
