Living standards to stagnate in 2025 despite hopes for better public services, warns thinktank
Briefly

Chancellor Rachel Reeves' plan to improve public services through tax rises could leave many households worse off, with real living standards set to decline.
According to the Resolution Foundation, the poorest 10% could see a 2% drop in disposable income, but improvements in public services may leave them £28 better off overall.
Mike Brewer noted, "While people may not be better off financially, they might feel better off with improved, less dysfunctional public services."
The IFS cautions that the chancellor's strategy relies on uncertain growth, as economic output contracted by 0.1% in October, raising recession fears.
