Microsoft is asking the Federal Trade Commission’s inspector general to investigate the alleged leakage of details regarding its ongoing antitrust investigation by FTC management, claiming it contradicts agency ethics.
Rima Alaily, Microsoft’s corporate vice president, pointed out that the information surrounding the investigation seems to come from within the FTC, suggesting a disturbing trend of unauthorized disclosures from the agency.
The FTC’s own guidelines state that the existence of investigations is nonpublic, except when the agency deems it in the public interest, a protocol Microsoft argues was violated.
Despite inquiring about the legitimacy of a Bloomberg report revealing their investigation, Microsoft asserts that they received no confirmation or insight from FTC staff about the information demand.
